Royce Gregory Goble, 76, of High Point, North Carolina, passed away on August 29, 2025, with his sister, Rosie, lovingly by his side. He was born on September 10, 1948, in Burlington, Iowa, to Royce Kelso Goble and Leone Josephine Pick Goble.
Royce was drafted into the United States Army and proudly served his country in Vietnam. He retired with honors as a Chief Warrant Officer 3 after a military career spanning 23 years. During his distinguished service, Royce received numerous commendations, including two Legion of Merit and the Vietnam Service Medal with four Service stars. He loved his country deeply and carried great pride in his service.
He will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, humor, and loving nature. Royce was a lifelong golfer—he loved playing the game, watching it, and teaching it. One of his greatest joys was passing down that love of golf to his daughter and sharing the sport with others. He was also a car enthusiast, especially Corvettes. He enjoyed watching baseball—specifically the Chicago Cubs—and took great joy in cheering for his granddaughter, MacKenzie, on the softball field. He also cherished talking sports with his grandson, Jeremy, sharing laughs and conversations that brought them closer together.
A man of faith, Royce was a lifelong Catholic, which guided him throughout his life. He will be laid to rest with full honors at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia.
Royce is survived by his daughter, Shelley Verdejo (Jason); his son, Ross Goble (Maureen); and his cherished grandchildren, Jeremy and MacKenzie Verdejo, and Paige. He is also survived by his siblings, Martha Goble, Rosie Petro (Mark), Jim Goble (Vicki), Rita Paull (David), and Randy Goble (Dena), as well as his former wife and the mother of his children, Barbara. He was preceded in death by his parents, Royce and Leone Goble.
Above all, Royce treasured time with his loved ones, and his memory will live on in the laughter, stories, and traditions he leaves behind.
