Samuel George Smith died peacefully on Saturday August 23 , 2014 at Shannon Gray Rehabilitation Center surrounded by his family. Mr. Smith was born on November 11, 1939 in Greensboro North Carolina. He was a graduate of UNC Chapel Hill earning a B.S. in Mathematics. He attended Union Presbyterian Seminary in Richmond Virginia and received a M.Div. Sam served as minister in the Presbyterian Church (USA) and later enjoyed a career in accounting and finance.
Preceeded in death by his parents William Siegfried Smith and Elizabeth Permar Smith of Madison North Carolina and his brother Dr. William Siegfried Smith, Jr. of Greensboro North Carolina. Sam is survived by his loving and devoted wife Gayle Pless Smith of the home. His two daughters Jennifer Hyatt and husband Chris Hyatt and their daughter Abigail of High Point and Christine Moffitt and husband Jeremy Moffitt and their children Ashlee, Johnathan, and Lucas of Thomasville and his two sons Rev. Dr. Allen Permar Smith and his wife Dr. Mary Vee Smith of Asheville North Carolina and David Kirk Allen and his wife Jennifer Chance Allen and their children Fletcher and Campbell of Greensboro. And several nieces and nephews.
He was a member of Sedgefield Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder and adult Sunday school teacher. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Sedgefield Presbyterian Church 4216 Wayne Rd Greensboro, NC.27407
The family will receive friends at Sechrest Funeral Home 1301 E. Lexington Avenue in High Point on Tuesday evening between 6-8pm.
A celebration of life and resurrection will be held on Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 pm at Sedgefield Presbyterian Church in Greensboro, North Carolina with the Rev. Tempe Fussell officiating. Interment will follow the service in Floral Garden Park Cemetery in High Point.
