Shelby Jean Wright

Shelby Jean Wright, 87, went to be with the Lord on June 2, 2026. A resident of Jamestown, North Carolina, Shelby was born August 9, 1938, in Vance County to the late Wesley Palmer and Annie Mae Gupton Blanks.

Shelby graduated from Henderson High School in 1956 and attended Henderson Business School. She brought steady dedication and quiet wisdom to her work, serving for 19 years with Syngenta, a chemical company, as a Technical Assistant.

On April 3, 1956, Shelby met her soul mate and the love of her life, John Horton Wright. They married on June 14, 1959, and raised two sons, John Jr. and Wesley. Devoted to those she loved, Shelby made family her first priority and treasured the time she shared with her children and grandchildren.

Shelby’s kindness was evident in the way she moved through the world—thoughtful, compassionate, and selfless in the everyday moments that matter most. A social butterfly, she enjoyed the friendships and fellowship she found through the Cedarwood Garden Club in her neighborhood, as well as her Bridge Club and Book Club. Her faith was a guiding presence throughout her life, and she was a faithful member of Jamestown United Methodist Church.

As her husband John said, “She's the finest lady you will ever know.” Shelby was a great daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, and she will be dearly missed.

Shelby was preceded in death by her parents.

Surviving are her loving husband of 67 wonderful years, John Wright Sr.; her two sons, John Wright Jr. and Wesley Wright; four grandchildren, Trey, Madeline, Alexandra, and Aaron; one great-granddaughter, Florence; and her brother, Jimmy Blanks.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Jamestown United Methodist Church Outreach Center.

A Celebration of Life for Shelby will be held at Jamestown United Methodist Church, 403 E Main St, Jamestown, NC 27282, on June 6, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. Family will receive friends 30 minutes prior of the service. Burial will follow at Sunset Gardens of Henderson, NC.
