On January 2, 1928, the body and soul of William Wesley Gordon, Jr. were welcomed into this world by his parents W.W. Gordon, Sr. and Vera Jordan Gordon. January 31, 2012, his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ welcomed his soul and a renewed body into His heavenly home with his beloved wife Emaline, dear brother John and his loving parents.
Wesley, Jr. grew up learning the value of good work and good works in High Point. After attending High Point High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served through the end of World War II. Later, he was invited to be a charter enlistee of the U.S. Air Force where he rose to the rank of Tech Seargent and travelled our country and world for 20 years and 11 months until his retirement September 1, 1970.
Before entering the Air Force, he married the true love of his life, Emaline Craven. Together they raised five children: Carolyn Louise Schultz Hannah of Sanford, NC; James Wesley Gordon of High Point, NC; Joseph Keith Gordon of Raleigh, NC; Daniel Edward Gordon of Shallotte, NC; and David Lee Gordon of Cary, NC.
Following his retirement, Wesley returned to High Point where he received a degree in business from Davidson County Community College and worked for Myrtle Desk in addition to raising vegetables, chickens, flowers and his children. Once the children were on their own, he retired once again from Myrtle Desk and spent the next 15 years loving and caring for Emaline who was affected by multiple sclerosis. Together they gardened and visited with many friends and family. If they showed up unexpectedly at your home and you were not there it was alright because there was another friend or relative just down the road they could visit or they just enjoyed the journey together. Wesley was the epitome of devotion to the care of Emaline during their marriage.
Wesley is a devout Christian and served as a Deacon of Hasty Baptist Church for many years and taught the Adult Men’s Sunday School Class.
Wesley is survived by his five children, 12 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters of High Point: Annie Mae Loftin Gray and her husband Orville; and Mary Francis Goodman Gray with her husband Richard; and sister in law Margaret Gordon of Denton.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate the life of William Wesley Gordon, Jr. at Sechrest Funeral Home Friday, February 3, from 6 to 8 pm. The funeral will be held Saturday, February 4, 2012 at Hasty Baptist Church at 11:00am with burial to follow at Deep River Friends Meeting.
