

William L. Underwood passed away on Monday, September 1, 2025, at the age of 96. At the time of his death, he was a resident of the Heritage Greens Memory Care in Greensboro, N.C. He was born on May 10, 1929, in High Point, N.C. He was the older son of the late Thomas J. and Betty Roberts Underwood. He was married to Elinor Minnis Underwood who died in 2001.
William (Bill) was educated in the High Point public school and graduated from High Point University with a B.S. degree in business administration, after serving in the Air Force for three years. After college, Bill worked for Southern Railway in the Transportation, Regulation and Costs Department. Later, he went to work for R.J. Reynolds Industries. He also taught transportation regulations at Forsyth Tech. At the time of his retirement from RJR, he was manager of Finished Products Distribution and continued as a consultant in transportation for several years.
Bill was of the Baptist faith. He served as Chairman of Deacons at First Baptist Church of High Point and later at Green Street Baptist Church. He also served on the Board of Directors of the North Carolina Baptist State Convention for 30 years, with the Baptist Lay Witness Foundation for 30 years and taught Sunday School for 40 years. Bill took his faith seriously and loved nothing more than witnessing to others.
Bill's hobbies included arrowhead hunting and reading, especially military history. He was a generous person who helped many people in need.
He is survived by his brother Tom Underwood and his wife Jill; his nephew Thomas L. Underwood and his wife Maria and their children and grandchildren.
At Bill's request, there will be no funeral service. Donations in Bill's memory may be mad to the charity of your choice.
