Cherished husband of Monica. Loving father of Brendan (Krista), Doug, Bobby and Andy. Treasured grandfather of Breslin, Hazel and J.J. Beloved son of Barbara and the late Bob. Dear brother of Babs, Bruce (Denise) and Brian (Susan). Son-in-law of Gail Carter and brother-in-law of Paul (Marcia) Frost, Ann (Tim) Eames and Jodi (Mike) LaDouceur. Uncle of Scott, Shauna, Matthew and Alex Stevens; Paul, Ian and Allison Frost; Cameron, Brooke, Paige and Regan LaDouceur. Nephew of Karlene (Milo) Stinton and DeAnn (Larry) Wilson. Brad will be missed by numerous other family and friends.
Brad was born in Macomb, Illinois on February 28, 1955 to Bob and Barbara Stevens. Bob was a Marketing Executive for Standard Oil so the family moved extensively around the Midwest until they settled in West Bloomfield Michigan in the mid-60’s. They remained here for eight years until he was transferred once again in 1976 to Madison, Wisconsin. When his father was transferred to Wisconsin, his parents, older sister and younger brother made the move to Wisconsin. Brad remained in Michigan with his younger brother Bruce. Brad and Bruce shared a home together and were as close as two brothers could be. Anyone who had the opportunity to be in the same room when the two of them got together could see the genuine love they have for each other. He loved his family his bro’s, sister and ‘Dear Ole Mom’.
Brad’s career began in the late 70’s driving computer tapes between Detroit and Grand Rapids. He was offered a job at PMH Caramanning in the early 1980’s and had a 17 year career there as a computer programmer. He also worked at Sandy Corporation, K Tool and retired earlier this year from Summit Sports.
Michigan was where he learned to play hockey at a local pond by his house in West Bloomfield. Brad attended Birmingham Groves High School and played on his high school hockey team. His love for hockey was passed to his sons Bobby and Andy who both played travel hockey and High School hockey for Lakeland High School. Brad loved being an Assistant Coach on the bench at Lakeland Arena and Orchard Lake St. Mary’s. He loved the game, the kids and being a part of the coaching staff.
Brad also had a love of history. He has an entire den of Civil War books and he was able to visit some of the different civil war sites on our travels.
And, as any of his friends will tell you, Brad inherited his dad’s love of a good conversation. Brad would always reach out and get to know people and ask them questions about themselves. He has a lot of friends from hockey and he loved to hang on the weekends with his neighbors. He hosted a weekend pool party in the summers and looked forward to having friends and their dogs over for the afternoon. The dogs in the neighborhood were trained to come over at 3 p.m. on Sunday’s to Mr. Brad’s house.
Brad will be missed so much by his family and friends. It’s so difficult to think of a future that he is not a part of but I know in my heart that he is OK and we will see him someday in the future.
Love you with all my heart Brad.
