Surrounded by family, Caroline Irene Platt passed away in the comfort of her home in Highland, MI on Monday, July 27, 2026. Although 70 years will never feel long enough, she lived a life full of gratitude and touched more lives than one can count.
Born on October 4, 1955 to Alicemary and Jack Grusnick, Caroline grew up alongside her older sister, Diane, and younger siblings, Susan and Mark. She graduated from West Bloomfield High School in 1973 before establishing a successful career in bookkeeping and accounting. Though largely self-taught, she had an exceptional talent for numbers and was admired for her dedication, accuracy, and unwavering work ethic.
On November 24, 1984, Caroline married the love of her life, Mark. Throughout the 41 wonderful years of marriage they shared, they built a home filled with love for their three daughters – Allison, Rachel and Cassandra. Family was always the center of her world and her greatest joy was becoming a grandmother to Kinsley, Adley and Brooks. Caroline provided her family a life that felt rich in every way that mattered. She will forever be a guiding light to her daughters as they learned from her the values of hard work, kindness, compassion, and putting family first.
She found enjoyment in creating stained-glass masterpieces, gardening, retirement travels with Mark, listening to country music, and treasured her annual trips to Shipshewana. Above all else, she loved every opportunity to visit her mother in Pinconning where they would go to the casino, play cards, or simply embrace each other’s company.
For 5 years and 7 months, Caroline courageously fought stage IV breast cancer. Through every scan, treatment, and challenging result she remained positive and optimistic. Her strength inspired everyone who knew her and her battle. She faced life's greatest challenge the same way she lived her life—with courage, grace, and endless loyalty to her family.
Caroline is survived by her loving mother Alicemary Grusnick; devoted husband, Mark; daughters, Allison (Erik) Utrecht, Rachel (Nick) Haughton, and Cassandra (Jason) Doyle; and her cherished grandchildren. She also leaves behind many beloved in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives will be forever touched by her kindness. She was preceded in death by her father, Jack Grusnick.
Family, friends and all who knew Caroline are invited to remember her together on Saturday, August 1, 2026 at Elton Black & Son Funeral Home in Highland, MI. Visitation will take place from 1-3pm with a memorial service immediately following at 3pm.
