David Eugene Hill, Sr., age 82, of Hartland, Township, Michigan, passed away on June 10, 2026. He was born on December 27, 1943, in Brighton, Michigan, and lived a life marked by intelligence, courage, hard work and deep faith.
David was the beloved husband of Becky Hill, loving one another since they met in 1992 and marrying on December 27th, 2006, in Toledo, Ohio.
He is survived by his wife Becky, his children David Jr. (Heather McDiarmid) and grandchild Kelsey Hill, Daughter Dana Hill, and grandchildren Rayelynn and Kyle Marsh; as well as grandchildren Destry and Shelby, children of late son Devon Hill. His stepdaughter Shannon Davis (Billy Davis) and grandchildren Hawton, Dorsey, and Harmony Davis. Stepson Brian Marsland (Jenn Marsland), and grandchildren Caleb Marsland and Sage Marsland (Cameron Houthoofd) and Great Granddaughter Maggie Houthoofd. He is also survived by his sisters Nina and Tallie, and his brother Dale. He was preceded in death by his brothers Sonny and Albert, Jr., “Pork”, and his sister Yvonne.
David served his country honorably as a veteran of the United States Army during the Vietnam War, from 1966 to 1968. His bravery in combat was recognized with the award of a Bronze Star for courageous valor. He carried that same sense of duty and strength throughout his life, and those who knew him understood that his service to others did not end when his military years were over. He later served as Commander of the Brighton VFW Post 4357, where he treasured the camaraderie and lasting friendships he formed with fellow veterans. He was also a trusted member of the Post 4357 Honor Guard and took great pride in paying tribute to fallen veterans with dignity and respect.
Following his military service, David worked at several jobs, before settling at Brighton Block & Concrete until his retirement in 2003. He was known as a hardworking and capable man who could fix nearly anything with the tools he kept close at hand. He had a gift for working with his hands and was especially skilled in concrete and woodworking, though he often did not recognize the talent others saw in him. He even bravely took on the responsibility of completely siding his home with beautiful log siding, a reflection of his patience, craftsmanship, and determination and help from the Lord. He approached every task with practicality and confidence, and his resourcefulness became one of the many qualities for which he was admired.
David had a lifelong passion for riding his motorcycles, a Harley Davidson Softail Springer, fondly named “Barney”, and his classic Honda V65 Magna. He enjoyed group rides with Rolling Thunder, and cherished single rides with his wife. He found joy in the open road, the freedom of the saddle, and the companionship of those who shared his passion. He was a talented athlete and an avid weightlifter, and he loved playing basketball. Even in his later years, he continued to compete in many Gus Macker 3 on 3 tournaments and remained enthusiastic about March Madness. He enjoyed working out at the gym, watching sports of all kinds, particularly football on Sundays, and he was a good golfer who learned much from his father-in-law.
Faith was an important part of David’s life, and he and Becky especially enjoyed traveling together to Christian conferences in Tennessee. There he studied the Bible, shared fellowship with other like-minded Christians, and appreciated the moments of connection, reflection, and encouragement. His devoted weekly viewing of Pastor John Hagee’s sermon messages nourished and encouraged his faith.
Above all, David loved his family. He treasured time spent with Becky, his children, his grandchildren, and his great-granddaughter Maggie. He also enjoyed sharing stories with his neighbors Paul and Wayne, and their families. His presence was a source of strength and comfort to those around him, and his love for his family was evident in the way he lived each day. He will be remembered for his steadfast spirit, his generous heart, his devotion to those he loved, and the many ways he enriched the lives of others.
David leaves behind a legacy of service, faith, family, and friendship. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
