Derk will be remembered as a loving son, brother, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. He had a love for the outdoors and was happiest when he was hunting, fishing, or simply spending time outside. Derk also loved anything with a motor. Whether it was something to drive, ride, work on, or tinker with, if it had an engine, chances are it caught his interest. Of all the things he enjoyed, Derk was especially happy when he was snowmobiling. There was something about being out on the trails, surrounded by the outdoors with a motor beneath him, that brought him genuine happiness.
Above all, Derk loved his family. His son, Keith, was his world. The loss of Keith left an immeasurable space in Derk’s heart, and he missed his son dearly every day. The love Derk carried for Keith never faded and remained an important part of who he was.
Derk was also a proud and loving grandfather to his granddaughter, Paisley Benedict, who held a very special place in his heart and brought love and joy into his life.
Derk is survived by his mother, Christi Benedict; his sister, Deborah (Jeffrey) Thompson; his brother, Darlwyn Benedict; his cherished granddaughter, Paisley Benedict; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Derk was preceded in death by his beloved son, Keith Benedict, and his father, Duane Benedict.
Derk's memory will live on through his family, the stories they share, and the many memories made over the years. He will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him. His family will carry him with them in the quiet moments outdoors, on a day spent fishing or hunting, on a snowy trail, and whenever the familiar rumble of an engine brings back memories of Derk.
Derk will be deeply missed and forever remembered by those who knew and loved him.
