Known to her friends as Eileen, she was born in Athy, Co. Kildaire, Ireland, on April 29, 1941. She emigrated to the United States in October 1959, and spent her early adulthood in Akron Ohio, where she met her future husband, John Robert (Bob) Kolb Jr. They married in July, 1964, and moved to West Bloomfield in 1972.
Eileen is preceded in death by her parents Julia-Ann and John Hyland, and by her brothers Liam and Brian Hyland. Eileen is survived by her loving husband Bob; her five sons and their wives: John and Becky, Kevin and Leigh, Brendan and Norine, Patrick and Dayle, and Brian and Erika; her grandchildren Brenna (Nathan), Sean, Ryan, Tyler, Sierra, Austin, Savannah, Emma, Brayden, and her namesake great grand daughter Isla Ellen. Eileen is also survived by eight siblings: Lily, Jack, Ann, Martin, Bridget, Tony, Peter, and Jerry; many, many nieces and nephews; and countless friends in the United States and Ireland.
Eileen studied cosmetology at University of Akron Riggs LaMar and Sayre beauty school and owned her own salon: Harbor Family Haircare. Eileen beautified and socialized with thousands of happy customers, making each look and feel as fabulous as she. After a 50+ year career she retired to enjoy more time with her beloved family in Highland, MI.
Eileen’s motto was “Make friends wherever you are and return home often.” She was proud of her Irish heritage and made multiple return trips to her homeland. Along with family and friends, Eileen enjoyed gardening and nature, and made sure the bird feeders were never empty. The life of any party, she poured drinks with a heavy hand and a lovey heart, and adored dancing and Irish pub music for all her days.
Eileen died as she lived, with style, grace, and surrounded by those she loved. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
