Helene N. Mackris
January 20, 1924 – November 10, 2018
Helene N. Mackris, age 94, of Novi, passed away on November 10, 2018.
Helene was born in Detroit on January 20, 1924. She graduated from High School of Commerce and worked for over 40 years at Michigan Central Railroad Depot as a secretary. She enjoyed museums, theater, dance, oil painting, movies, classic movie stars, and loved to dine out with family and friends. Throughout her life, Helene’s greatest passion was singing. Her dream of becoming a movie star faded, but she did get a taste of stardom during her retirement after joining the Novi Senior Center, where she starred and sang solos in many of their regular productions. Helene loved travel and was always excited to be going somewhere, in earlier years tours to Europe and all over the US, and more recently on local side trips with the seniors and Red Hats. Most of all she truly loved every member of her family.
Loving sister of Gus (Niki) Mackris, Madeline (the late Constantine) Vintzel and Andrew (Lisé) Loukas. Cherished aunt of Jon (Christina) Vintzel, Vali (John) Dyer, Nicole (Mike) Murphy, James (Yvonne) Vintzel, Nick (Katerina) Mackris, John (Christine) Mackris, Tassia (Peter) Babalis and Demetrious Loukas. Proud great-aunt and great-great-aunt of many. Helene was preceded in passing by her father Nick Mackris, her mother Stravoula Solomos, and her stepfather James Loukas.
The family would like to express a kind thank you for all the support that has been shown to them during this difficult time.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
