On behalf of the United States Submarine Veterans (USSVI), we offer our sincere condolences to Sheri and all of LTJG Oberdorf's family and friends as you mourn his passing. May God whisper peace into your hearts, comfort, and heal them. We are grateful for Jim's service to our country in the U.S. Submarine Service. "Sailor, rest your oar. We have the watch. May you rest in peace and may God bless your loved ones who remain. Thank you for your service to our country."

So, heavenly Father add his name to the roll
Of our departed shipmates still on patrol.
Let them know that we who survive
Will always keep their memories alive.

Bless those who serve beneath the deep,
Through lonely hours their vigil keep.
May peace their mission ever be!
Protect each one, we ask of Thee.
Bless those at home who wait and pray
For their return by night and day.

James Alan Oberdorf, LTJG, US Navy, Now on Eternal Patrol.
Fair Winds and Following Seas Shipmate
His record is now posted online in the Eternal Patrol file on the USSVI website.

My beloved brother. We were so proud of you and cheered you on every step of the way since you were 6 years old.
My heart is broken but I know that you are sailing through the universe among the stars and planets. Love you always.

I am an old friend of his sister Mary, I remember Jamie fondly as a little boy. I recall a fondness for Chocolate milk and his little toughy walk. My husband and I wish to extend our deepest sympathy to your family. You are in our thoughts and prayers. Nancy & Dave Germann San Antonio, Texas.

RIP Jamie. I am happy to hear you have had such a rich and full life. So sorry for your family and kids that it ended too soon. You were the cutest kid in the neighborhood. As your brother George once told me, "Rock and roll never forgets"
