James Alan Oberdorf, 49, died suddenly on March 9, 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Helen Oberdorf and brothers Thomas David Oberdorf and Robert John Oberdorf. He is survived by Shari Bignotti-Oberdorf, daughters Tiffany Oberdorf and Shelby Oberdorf and stepdaughters Nicole Bignotti and Christine Bignotti. Siblings, Mary (William) Ewald, Marlaine Desrosiers, Charlotte (Jack) Glezen, Richard S. (Susan) Oberdorf, George W. (Valerie) Oberdorf, and Joan (Jim) Bellows. Many nieces, great nieces, nephews, great nephews and first and second cousins. His one remaining aunt Mrs. Lillian Sivko just turned 96 years old. He graduated from the U. S. Naval Academy and from submarine school and proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1982 to 1986. He was awarded three Bronze stars and a Navy Expeditionary medal as well as other awards. An accomplished pilot, flight instructor and emergency medical technician and a brilliant inventor. James traveled all over the world, loved gardening, books, and attended Oakland Community College with plans to enter The University of Michigan. Loved by his family we will miss him.
Visitation will be held Sunday, March 24, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the Funeral Service at 3:00 p.m. at the Highland Chapel of the Elton Black & Son Funeral Home, 3295 E. Highland Rd., Highland. The Funeral Service will be officiated by Pastor George W. Oberdorf.
