She was the beloved wife of Bill, loving mother of Hana, and daughter of John Hoban Sr. and the late Irene. She is also survived by seven brothers and sisters: Anne (Spencer) Anderson, Carol Leamon (Gerard Canavan), John T. (Elizabeth) Hoban, Mary (Philip) Hall, Brian (Lisa) Hoban, Christopher (Christine) Hoban and Kevin (Lisa) Hoban, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Janet earned her master’s degree in Speech and Language Pathology from Wayne State University and enjoyed a long career as a speech therapist in the Detroit, Algonac, and Pontiac school districts and in private practice. She loved children and brought a unique combination of fun, creativity, sensitivity, and knowledge to her work.
Janet married Bill Bernard in 1996 and several years later they welcomed a beautiful baby daughter, Hana, into their lives. Janet took pure delight in being a mom, involving herself in every aspect of Hana’s life. Those who knew Janet appreciated her whimsical artistic talent, her ability to recognize a “diamond in the rough” at a thrift sale, the lighthearted mischief and fun that she could bring to any occasion, and her affection for animals, many of which she rescued.
A celebration of her life will take place at 11 am on Saturday, November 17, 2018, at the Congregational Church of Birmingham at 1000 Cranbrook Road in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Memorial contributions suggested to the Michigan Humane Society.
