

Joann Marie Mateer, age 90, of White Lake, passed away Thursday, August 25, 2022, at her home. Left to cherish her memory are her loving children: Robert (Meg) Mateer, Ken (Sharon) Mateer, and Marleen (Steve) O’Connell; her twelve grandchildren; her twelve great-grandchildren; and her sister, Frances.
Joann was born November 19, 1931, in Dunbar, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Richard and Elizabeth (Tipotsch) Moyer. She and Raymond Jay Mateer were married on August 15, 1956, and shared fifty-three wonderful years together until Raymond’s passing on April 18, 2010. Joann worked as a secretary for most of her professional life, and spent many years at Island Creek Coal Company, where she eventually retired. Joann was devoted in her Christian faith; she attended weekly bible study, and was a devoted worshiper every Sunday. loved to sing hymns at Ward Presbyterian Church, and Trinity Baptist Church, where she was member for many years. In her free time, Joann could always be found painting, singing, or playing Bingo. She was a wonderful woman who will be greatly missed.
Joann was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Elizabeth; her loving husband, Raymond; her daughter-in-law, Cathy Mateer; and her two sisters: Shirley and Gertrude.
A Funeral Service will take place for Joann at 11:00 am on Monday, August 29, 2022, at the Highland Chapel of the Elton Black & Son Funeral Home, 3295 E. Highland Road, Highland, 48356. Joann’s family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Sunday, August 28, 2022, from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm, and again on Monday from 10:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am. Burial will follow on Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at 9:00 am at Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Road, Holly, 48442.
