Klann, John Leo was born in Detroit, Michigan on July 2, 1929, the son of Walter Herman and Gladys (nee’ Fairbanks) Klann. John was inducted into the United States Armed forces in 1951 serving in Korea and was honorably discharged in 1953. A year later he met the love of his life Vivian VunCanon and they were married in Redford, Michigan on July 10, 1954, where they resided until 1971and then moved to Highland, Michigan. His daughter in law, Kathy fondly remembers being with child, standing on a chair lining the cupboards with paper in preparation for the move in. John worked for the Redford Union school district as a consummate custodian, bus driver and keeper of the school pool. Over the years he had driven countless schoolchildren to the northern region of the lower peninsula for camping and learning tours. He was a beloved chaperone as well as the driver of the bus. John was an avid bowler, and anyone would be lucky to have him on their team. He also enjoyed Tiger Baseball and the University of Michigan Football Team both as arm-chair quarterback and in person cheering from the seats inside the stadium. Friends will remember him for his enthusiasm and excitement at gameday tailgate parties at Muehlig Funeral Chapel.
John loved traveling and camping with his wife, Vivian, grandchildren, Korey, Kris and Kari, and son Randy and son in law Kevin. He was also able to walk the Mackinaw Bridge four times with his son Randy, always enjoying refreshments afterwards at the Keyhole Bar in Mackinaw City. John also enjoyed years of camping in the Tawas City area where one of his favorite places was Barnacle Bills for a great hamburger and a pint. He will be deeply missed by all of his family and many of those who crossed his path in life.
John is survived by his wife of 71 years; Vivian, son; Randy Klann (Kevin Jacobi-Klann), daughter in law; Kathy Klann (nee’ Teubert), grandchildren; Korey Klann (Brandy), Kris Klann and Kari Carr (Matt), great grandchildren; Kaelyn, and Bentley Klann, Skylar and Hudson Carr, Alex and Allen Klann.
