John Warren Weller Jr.

John Warren Weller Jr., of White Lake, Michigan, passed away peacefully at home on July 29, 2025, at the age of 81. Born in Detroit on July 12, 1944, John lived a life full of adventure, joy, and deep connection.

To know John was to smile — he had a magnetic presence and a gift for lighting up every room he entered. He believed life was meant to be fun, and he lived that belief fully: laughing often, embracing silliness, and surrounding himself with a cherished circle of lifelong friends and devoted family.

A builder and developer by trade, John was a consummate entrepreneur, always dreaming up his next venture. He had a passion for collecting cars and boats and never missed a chance to hit the road or water for a good time. His zest for life was unmatched — he’d come home from work grinning and say, “Pack your bags, our flight leaves in two hours.” That was John: spontaneous, bold, and always ready to turn an ordinary day into a story worth telling.

He was the kind of man who could fix anything, build everything, and still have time to be the “fun uncle” or grandfather, the one who changed diapers on the back of a boat and took his grandchildren on wild, unforgettable adventures up north.

John is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 49 years, Meredith; his daughter, Ashley Donahue, and her husband, John; his sons, Ryan Carne and his wife, Charlotte, and Randy Carne; and his grandchildren, Noah Donahue, Isaac Donahue, Danny Carne, Max Carne, and Sarah Carne. He also leaves behind his loving sisters Carol (Sandy), Rosie (the late Don), and Linda, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends who became family over the years.

In honor of John’s generous spirit and love for helping others, donations can be made to Austin Catholic School, the Alzheimer’s Association, or a charity of your choice in his name.

A celebration of life will be held at Grosse Pointe Yacht Club on August 16th at 12:00 in the afternoon — where laughter, stories, and a good tale are strongly encouraged.
