

Karen L. Cockin-Young, a longtime resident of Highland, Michigan, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2026. She was born in Pontiac, Michigan on February 1, 1964 to Bernadine (Briolat) and Kenneth Cockin Sr.
Karen was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend whose greatest joy came from caring for those she loved. She is survived by her loving husband, Dale Young Jr.; her children, Bradley Young (Dana Kramer), Nicholas Young, Eric (Tiffany) Young, and Trevor Young; her cherished granddaughter, Sophie (Daughter of Bradley and Dana); her sister, Katherine (Terry) Westfall; her brother, Kenneth Cockin Jr.; and her beloved family cat, Rex.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bernadine Cockin and Kenneth Cockin Sr., as well as her beloved family cat, Misty.
Karen will be remembered for the love she poured into every holiday and family gathering. She found great joy in baking and decorating beautiful birthday cakes, hosting memorable Christmas and Thanksgiving celebrations, and carrying on the tradition of annual Christmas photos with Santa. She was an avid gardener and was also gifted with a needle and thread. She was known for lovingly sewing costumes and blankets for her family.
A proud Michigan explorer, Karen loved traveling throughout the state in search of its many lighthouses, walking the beaches while hunting for Petoskey stones, Yooper stones, agates, and geodes, and discovering unique landmarks along the way. She also enjoyed antiquing and collecting Ty Beanie Babies, vintage furniture, and coins. Whether visiting Highland cows and alpacas or spending time with those she loved, Karen found happiness in life's simple moments and created lasting memories for everyone around her.
Karen's kindness, creativity, and generous spirit will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Karen's memory to the American Cancer Society or the American Humane Society.
A visitation will be held at the Elton Black and Son Highland Chapel on Friday, July 31, 2026, from 4:00pm until 8:00pm. A committal service will take place as she is laid to rest at the Highland Twp. Cemetery the following day, August 1, 2026 at 12:00pm.
