Kelley Lea Barber

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Kelley, who left this world peacefully on August 31, 2026, with her cherished family by her side. Born on June 26, 1962, in Pontiac, Michigan, Kelley was a beacon of love and laughter to all who knew her. She was the beloved daughter of Edgar and Clarabelle Barber, who together with her brothers, Chuck and Edward, and sister, Pam, have predeceased her.

Kelley's journey through life was one marked by warmth, selflessness, and an unwavering devotion to her family. She was a devoted mother to her daughter Mary, who, alongside her husband James Behnke, blessed Kelley with six delightful grandchildren: Jameson, Allison, Ellie, Kaylee, Finley, and Laney. They were the lights of her life, and she found immense joy in every moment spent doting on them.

She shared a special bond with her siblings, Carol (Chuck) Hoobler, Sandy (the late Jerry), Nancy (Doug) Burton, and brothers Bob, Kenneth (Bridget) Barber, and Don (Karen) Barber. Her extended family of nieces, nephews, and other relatives also held a cherished place in her heart.

Kelley graduated from Huron Valley Schools in 1989, marking the beginning of a life dedicated to the care and nurturing of others. She worked tirelessly as a caregiver, operating an in-home daycare while raising her daughter, and later helped her best friend open a pizza place. Her compassion extended to her own father, whom she cared for with love and dedication when he required full-time assistance.

Her passions were as vibrant as her personality. Kelley adored playing Bingo, was an avid reader of V.C. Andrews novels, and cherished her Precious Moments collection. Her love for the water and sunbathing was surpassed only by the delight she took in spoiling her grandchildren. Known for her lively spirit and her signature moo moo dresses, Kelley was never one to shy away from speaking her mind. Her candidness and vivaciousness were beloved qualities that endeared her to many.

The family will celebrate Kelley's life with a viewing on September 4, 2026, from 2-7 pm at Elton Black & Son Funeral Home, located at 3295 E. Highland Rd, Highland, MI 48356. With a luncheon on Saturday September 5th at 1 pm at Meadow Lake Clubhouse, 3951 Bentwood Circle, White Lake. In honor of Kelley's generous spirit, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to St.Jude's Children Hospital or the Ronald McDonald foundation in lieu of flowers.

Kelley's legacy of love, laughter, and generosity will forever be remembered and cherished by all who were fortunate enough to have known her. She leaves behind a tapestry of fond memories that will continue to inspire and comfort us in the days to come.
