Kumudben Ujamlal Kothari, age 84, of Highland, died Friday, May 29, 2020, at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland Hospital in Pontiac. Left to cherish her memory are her four sons: Kiron (Carol) Kothari, Dr. Rashmi (Cathy) Kothari, MD., Rajesh (Christi) Kothari, and Dr. Sandip (Dr. Terri Kothari, MD) Kothari, MD; her twelve grandchildren: Jayshree, Asha, Kiron, Kumar, Anju, Ravi, Sanjay, Priya, Ayesha, Tej, Malina, and Deven; her sister, Bharti Manubhai Jhaveri; and many other nieces, nephews, and extended family members in the United States and in India.

Kumudben was born on June 30, 1935, in Bombay, India, the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Kusumchand L. and Subhadra Fakirchand (Sarkar) Choski. She and Dr. Ujamlal C. Kothari, MD were married on May 19, 1955, in India. They shared forty-four wonderful years together until Ujamlal’s death on June 24, 1999. In her first few years of motherhood, Kumudben was a loving stay-at-home-mom to her four boys, who were raised in the Pontiac area. As her children grew older, she began working as an administrative assistant at Eastover Elementary School in the Bloomfield Hills district. In her free time, Kumudben loved to cook meals for her family and friends; she took great joy in cooking for people, no matter who they were. She also enjoyed going to the movies with her friends. However, above all else, Kumudben loved to spend time with her family; especially all her grandchildren! She will be greatly missed by many.

Kumudben was preceded in death by her parents, Kusumchand and Subhadra; her husband, Dr. Ujamlal C. Kothari, MD; her granddaughter, Kaitan; her siblings: Indira Sumtichan Jhaveri, Vasumati Sumudrasen Jhaveri, Ramila Fulchand Malji, Nalin Kusumchand Choski, and Jayu Ramesh Jhaver.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, laws have been implemented restricting the number of people allowed inside public buildings. With the health and safety of their loved ones in mind, Kumudben’s family has decided to hold a memorial service at a later date. In accordance with Kumudben’s wishes, cremation has taken place.

I am sorry to hear of the passing of your mother. She was delightful and so was your father. I live in the house you grew up in on Crescent Road I bought it from your parents 41 years ago and visited their house in Bloomfield Hills several different times. Your mother used to visit my flower shop many times especially after the loss of her little granddaughter who she grieved for. I own Bella Rose flower market in commerce Township Michigan and your mother was working at Huron Valley hospital at the time. She used to visit me a lot at my store. Your mother and father had a beautiful wife and we’re so proud of all of their sons. May you find comfort in knowing how loved they were and what special people that contributed to society beautifully. Stop in my flower shop I’d love to see you you were just little boys when I first met you. Jo Rosol

Our deep felt condolences to all. The passing of a loved one is never easy. My parents are both gone and yet they are always with me. If I am quiet I can hear them especially when I need guidance.
Your Mom, Kumudben, will always be at your side.
God Bless you all!!!

My sincere condolences to Kumudben’s family. I use to work out with Kumud at Bally’s and Plant Fitness. I use to tease her about her talking more then working out. 😉 She was the kindest lady with a huge heart. She always enjoyed sharing stories about her family, she was very proud of all of you. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
