Larry Everett Fletcher, age 75, of Hartland, passed away Friday, April 15, 2022, at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Carol; his two children: Chad L. Fletcher, and Carrie L. Fletcher; his four grandchildren: Quentin (Breanna Marcum) Fletcher, Kody (Chelsey Pringle) Fletcher, Kaylie (Kyle) Engelhardt, and Sarah Fletcher; his four great-grandchildren: Dylan Marcum, Hazel Fletcher, Evelyn Engelhardt, and Ellesana Fletcher; his sister-in-law, Debbie Kakalik; his niece, Cynthia (William) Jenks; his two nephews: Kory (Rebecca) Christensen, and James (Andrea) Kakalik; his six grandnephews and nieces; and his four great-grandnephews and nieces.
Larry was born August 24, 1946, in Lansing, the son of Mr. & Mrs. Everett E. and Ruth M. (Hill) Fletcher. He married the love of his life Carol A. Kakalik on December 28, 1968; it was love at first sight! They shared fifty-three wonderful years of marriage together. During the Vietnam War, Larry proudly served his country in the United States Army. During his time in the service, Larry served as a medic. He was stationed overseas in Germany, and domestically at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. Larry worked for the State of Michigan in several capacities. He was employed as a semi-truck driver for the Department of Transportation before moving on to become an electrician for the State Fair Grounds. Larry would go on to retire from the Michigan Department of Corrections, where he worked as a maintenance mechanic. Overall, at the time of his retirement, Larry worked for the State of Michigan for thirty years.
Larry was strong in his faith in God and was a member of the congregation at All Saints Lutheran Church of Hartland. He had a great passion for traveling; some of his fondest memories were made during his frequent visits to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, and to his parent's cottage on Clear Lake in Farwell. Larry was also proud of his family's month-long cross-country trip to California and his trip to Hawaii with Carol to celebrate their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary. In the summertime, Larry spent every chance he got going on camping, fishing, and boating trips. He took the boat out on Lake St. Clair, Lake Erie, and the Detroit River. Over the years, Larry collected many trophies for his fishing accomplishments. He loved to go camping and off-roading at the Silver Lake Sand Dunes. He would never pass up an opportunity to take a lighthouse tour! In his free time, Larry could always be found watching one of his favorite movies, television shows, or car races; working on his 1946 Willy’s Jeep; or spending time with his family, whom he loved dearly. Larry loved tinkering in his barn, had one of every tool, and could fix anything. Larry loved telling stories, and enjoyed talking to everyone he met; he knew no strangers. He was a wonderful man who will be greatly missed.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Ruth; his sister, Linda M. Christensen; and his brother-in-law, James S. Kakalik.
