Mary Antoinette Bastian, age 84, of White Lake, died Wednesday, January 8, 2020, at her home. Left to cherish her memory are her three children: Kathryn (Richard Wayne) Golden; Douglas Bastian; and Ruth (Jeffrey) Coil; her two grandchildren: Daniel (Alisha) Bastian and Jennifer (Phillip) Leja; her three great-grandchildren: Griffin Price, Mason Bastian, and Logan Leja; and her sister Bernadette Genovesi. In addition, Mary had one great-granddaughter on the way! Mary was born February 24, 1935, in Calumet, Michigan, the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Wilfred and Veronica (Perreault) Poisson. She and Franklin D. Bastian were united in marriage on September 19, 1953, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Hubbell, Michigan. They shared sixty-three wonderful years together until Franklin’s death on March 15, 2015. After high school, Mary worked in Calumet at the family shoe store. Then, she began working at Superior Sausage Plant in Dollar Bay, Michigan, and also at Duffy’s Restaurant in Union Lake, Michigan, where she worked in the kitchen. Lastly, Mary worked as a custodian at Twin Beach Elementary School in the Walled Lake district for many years, until her retirement in 1995. Mary was a devoted parishioner of the Catholic Church of the Holy Spirit in Highland, Michigan. Mary enjoyed many hobbies that kept her busy in her free time, including going shopping, riding on her golf cart on her ten acres, cooking and baking, attending church picnics, and going on casino trips with her loved one. But most of all, Mary enjoyed spending time with her beloved family; especially her great-grandchildren! Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Wilfred and Veronica; her brother Hermann, who was killed in the Korean War; her brothers: Joseph, Robert, Jerome, and Francis; and her three sisters: Marie, Patricia, and Dolores.
