In his own words, shared with his wife of 57 years, looking out over the lake they both loved, Robert (Bob) McMahon said “we have had a very good life.”
Bob spent his final days as he did so many summers with boat rides and visits from friends, and family, including his wife Elizabeth (Betty) McMahon, daughters Michelle McMahon and her partner, Vincent Hansen, Heather Carr and her husband, Nic, and Katie Peskac and her husband, Mike; grandchildren Exaveir Carr, Nikki Carr, Luella Peskac, and Bennett Peskac, and niece Chantal Duncan and her husband, Bill and their children Abby, Vox and Ciara. Bob was dearly loved by his family, friends, and neighbors who will miss him deeply.
Bob and Betty had an immediate and life-long love that began when they met while Bob was earning his bachelor’s degree in finance from Michigan State University. They later married on April 19, 1969, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Wayne, Michigan. Their life together was a deep and lasting partnership that was an example to everyone who knew them.
Bob served his country as a veteran of the United States Army, where he worked as a medic during the Vietnam War. His service reflected the quiet strength and compassion that defined him throughout his life. Following his military service, he built a respected career and retired from Bank of America as a financial analyst.
Bob loved living on White Lake, where he enjoyed the beauty and peace of the water. Water skiing and boating were among his favorite pastimes, and he took every opportunity to be outdoors and active. He built, improved and repaired many parts of the house he and Betty bought in their 20s, customized his sailboat to his specifications and maintained his boats and lakefront. Bob shared and passed on these skills and was always ready to help.
Those who knew Bob will remember him as a loving and generous man whose presence brought comfort and strength. He especially loved his three girls, and his family was the center of his world. He had a remarkable way of filling the home with love, warmth, and a sense of security that will be remembered always.
It was important to Bob that his family and friends know that they were loved by him, and he made sure we did. We will hold on to that as we miss him.
