

Tommy Eugene Rugenstein, age 71, of Waterford, passed away Thursday, March 24, 2022, at the Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital in Commerce Township. Left to cherish his memory are his loving daughter, Debbie (Jason) Mulligan; his two grandchildren: Trevor and Lillian Mulligan; his nephew, Jim Rugenstein; and his niece, Jennifer Rugenstein.
Tommy was born April 22, 1950, in Pontiac, the son of Mr. & Mrs. Morris and Vera (Walker) Rugenstein. He married the love of his life, Phyllis, on April 5, 1980, and they shared fourteen wonderful years together until Phyllis’s death in 1994. Throughout his life, Tommy worked as an assembly lineman at General Motors. He spent thirty years with GM before eventually retiring on April Fool’s Day! In his free time, Tommy enjoyed expanding his collection of ’57 Chevy toy cars. He was also known as the photographer at all the family gatherings because he loved taking photos of everyone. Tommy held fond memories of the trips he took with his daughter to Las Vegas and California. Most of all, Tommy loved spending time with his family; especially his grandchildren!
Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, Morris and Vera; his loving wife, Phyllis; his brother, James Rugenstein; and his sister, Sandra Rugenstein.
A funeral service will take place on Tuesday, March 29, 2022, at 11:00 am at the Highland Chapel of the Elton Black & Son Funeral Home, 3295 E. Highland Road, Highland, Michigan 48356. Tommy’s family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm, and again on Tuesday from 10:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am. A burial will follow at White Chapel Memorial Park Cemetery, 621 W. Long Lake Road, Troy, Michigan 48098.
