Sue was born on July 30, 1946 to Helen and Herman Lee in Monroe, Tennessee. She married the love of her life, Lonnie in 1966 and the two spent 58 happy years together here on Earth before being reunited in Heaven. Sue and Lonnie spent the majority of their adult life in Highland, Michigan where they raised their daughters, Kim and Melissa and became members at Highland Congregational Church. It was at this church, that they made lifelong friends. When Sue needed help whether it be someone to build a ramp for Lonnie, a ride to chemo or someone to sit by her side during her final days, she always knew her church congregation had her back.
Sue spent the majority of her career at Highland Township in the Treasury Department. Once she became a Grandma (Nana), you could find Sue at dance competitions or football games and on weekends it brought her so much joy to have her grandkids, Torrey and Joey, stay the night for a sleepover. In 2023, Sue became a great grandma. In the final days before her passing, she expressed gratitude for being able to meet her great granddaughter, Margo and that one of the happiest moments of her life was holding her for the first time.
Sue was a devoted wife to Lonnie and when he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease 14 years ago, she became his primary caregiver. She was a strong advocate for him and made sure he lived the best life he could despite his diagnosis. Sue selflessly gave up her free time to take Lonnie to exercise classes and medical appointments and when he couldn’t physically make it to church anymore, she stayed home with him. On Sundays, they would read devotionals and pray together because she didn’t want him to miss out and it wouldn’t feel right going without him.
Sue is survived by her daughters Kim (Terry) Christopher and Melissa (Bob) Kripl, her grandchildren Jason Christopher, Torrey (Justin) Davenport and Joey Kripl and her great granddaughter Margo Davenport. She was preceded in Death by her Husband Lonnie on February 24, 2025, her parents Herman and Helen (Smith) Lee, and her siblings Terry and Judy Lee.x
