William was born on February 1, 1951, to his late parents, Thomas and Elizabeth Gregory. Born and raised in Detroit, William discovered a lifelong passion for horses at a young age. His dedication to the hunter-jumper discipline not only shaped his youth but eventually led his family to Highland, where he found space to grow his own family. A true craftsman, William had a deep love for woodworking. Whether building a deck by hand, crafting custom doors for their home, or designing a greenhouse for his beloved wife Mary, his work was an expression of love and care. There was always a project underway—and always someone he was building it for. William was married to Mary for 28 years, their partnership spanning three decades filled with laughter, resilience, and unwavering support. Together, they built a home that was open to all, especially their grandchildren, who were the light of William’s life. He cherished every round of golf with them and never passed up a day on the course—especially if it was with his best friend, Al. A proud volunteer at the VFW, William gave his time generously and found camaraderie and purpose in service. It was there, as much as anywhere, that his deep sense of loyalty and community shone brightest. William leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, and quiet joy. He will be remembered not only for what he built with his hands, but also for the life he built with his family.
He is survived by his wife Mary, his children Samantha (Thomas) Black and Keeley Gregory, and 4 grandchildren; Cousins James and Marilyn Brand, and many friends who were like family. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will echo in every carefully hammered nail, every swing on the course, and every story told over coffee at the VFW.
Preceded in passing by his sister Jai (Jim) Kasper.
