

He was born on December 7, 1932 in Holgate, the son of the late Alphonse and Edna (Yackee) Howe. On August 2, 1958 he married Lorraine Wink and she survives.
Richard was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Holgate and the Holgate K of C. He was a Korean War Army veteran and a Life member of the New Bavaria VFW, and a member of the Holgate American Legion. H e served on the Holgate Village Council for 15 years and the Holgate Fire Department for 48 years. Bones served as the Holgate High School Baseball coach for 18 years and coached baseball for over 60 years; he is credited with starting the Holgate Little League and Pony League. He also was a basketball referee for 40 years and a baseball umpire for 15 years and was the Secretary for the District 5 of the Ohio Referees Assoc. Richard was also avid soft ball player, hunter and gardener. He retired from General Motors after over 37 years in 1990.
He is survived also by three sons, Bill (Alice) Wink of Kendallville, IN, John (Pat) Howe of Houston, TX, Ric (Tammy) Howe of Holgate; daughter, Penny Mangas of Charlotte, NC; sister, Shirley (Ken) Crow of Boulder, CO; six grandchildren, Jenny Diehl, Nathan Wink, Paige Howe, Austin Howe, Ryan Belding and Jamie Mangas.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Don Howe, sisters, Betty Winnow and Kate Shank.
At the end of life our questions are very simple; “ did I live fully? And did I love well ?”

Daddy…you have touched so many lives and donated countless hours to your home town.
Your dedication to the youth of Holgate well be a legend. We are so proud of you and honored to call you our dad. “ Mr Holgate” …you will be missed.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at 10:30 A.M.at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Father Stephen Stanbery, officiating. Burial will be in the Riverview Memory Gardens , Defiance , Ohio with Military Rites accorded by the Joint Veteran Posts of Holgate and New Bavaria. Friends will be received on Sunday from 2 – 9PM with a Rosary Service at 7PM Sunday and on Monday from 2 to 9PM with a Last Alarm Services at 7PM in the Snyder Funeral Home, Holgate.
The family suggests memorials to the Holgate EMS, Holgate Athletic Boosters Club or a Charity of the Donor's Choice.
