I can still see Officer Perales enter my office with a truant child. He was one of the best. When we see the news of anti-police behavior, I think of Officer Perales and how much he meant to the Holland community. I wish more people could have known him.

As a young intern, likely a little too enthusiastic, Abe picked his moment to quietly reign that in.  It was a traffic stop.  We both observed the traffic violation.  He obtained the documents and returned to the cruiser.  After the person check, to my surprise and consternation, he handed me the citation book.  He quietly said it was my sole decision whether the driver left the stop with a citation  or warning.  I do not remember what the decision was.  Abe had given me a very gentle but significant dose of reality.

Through the years that lesson was remembered often.  And, when I was assigned to train rookies, have recalled that and tried to  use that same approach.  As the saying goes, he could step on your toes without ruining the shine.  An absolute class act.

Growing up in Holland in the late 60s and being a gearhead with fast cars and bikes  let's just say Mr Abe and I knew each other. I was issued many citations throughout the years to include a few written by Mr Abe he always treated me with much respect and was very pleasant and always smiling he was a true gentleman in every way. We have so many memories with mom & dad, every Monday evening dinner was at our house.  The activities the kids were involved in, concerts and plays they were there.  My husband's favorite memory of dad was when he ask permission to marry me.
Dad had come home for dinner and David asked if they could talk, the entire time they were talking dad had his hand on his holster rocking back and forth on his heels.  David said he didn't know if that weapon was going to be used to chase him off or what.

Sr Perales was one of the kindest persons I had the pleasure of knowing. I went to school with a couple of his children and to say the least they were blessed to have Sr Perales as a father. He was so kind but along with that kindness always a word of wisdom and "consejos" which were always welcomed and appreciated. He was the kind of person that never looked down at you and always said if you put your mind to be a better person you can do it. Que diosito te reciba en Su  Santa Gloria. The Sybesma family was blessed to have known Abe and to be able to call him  our friend.  He was there to help both as an officer and friend when I was a teenager and needed some direction.  As time passed on he showed what a true police officer is all about.  We will all miss him but are so glad we knew him!  

To the family, The community has lost a great resource and friend at the passing of "Abe'. I first met Abe when he served as a truant officer for the Holland Public Schools. He knew this community and families well and was very effective as a truant officer and police officer. He was a good friend and this community was a much better place because of him. His sense of humor will be missed. God bless you, his family, and know that he has been our gift.

Abe always had a smile along with his great humor.  Got to know him while working at Ottawa Co Sheriff Dept and always enjoyed bumping into him over the years!  When I was in Holland Hospital in 2008 after heart attack he would check on me and say hello

I worked with Abe at HPD as a secretary.  He was a good man, a pleasure to work for and with.  After his retirement we would run into each other and he still could make me laugh.   He will be missed.   

Mr. Perales was a very kind and friendly person. My prayers are with the family. 

Dear Lori, John, and family. May God give you comfort and peace during this time.  Abe was a very good guy!  When we were teenagers, Abe was a "favorite" cop!  He always had time to spend with us teenagers!!!  He gave out great advice!  Blessings to you all as you  remember your special times together with him. God has Abe in HIS hands. I couldn’t have asked for a better father then what you were to us kids,grandkids and a better friend to many that got to know you dad,rest in peace and give mom a big hug when you see her for me !! 

Abe was a mentor and a friend, as a young Police Officer he mentored me in the importance how to approach volatile situations, like the many Domestic fights that we were called to respond to on a regular basis.
He taught me the importance of Respect and humor and when and how to inject them.
Abe was small in stature, but had the heart of a Lion, I remember him standing with us in many challenging situations, he would never back down. 
Abe would always have Wise old saying in Spanish,  sayings,  that taught good life lessons,.

Rest In Peace my friend.   I remember you stopping at Hope on 3rd shift to have a cup of coffee.  You made me laugh and had such fun stories.   Thanks for being that ray of sunshine in the middle of the night.  Until we meet again.   

To the family of Abe Peralez. Please accept my deepest condolences in the passing of your Father, Grandfather, Uncle & Brother. Your dad was my dad, Cristo Mascorro, closest friend. As my dad became home bound your dad would stop by frequently to see him.  Most times they would head out to Speedway to get something hot to drink and just talk and joke around. Many is the time that I would stop by my dad's house and his truck was there but he was not. I finally figured out that Abe had picked him up. I'm sharing a picture of my dad and yours but I'm not sure of the year. Rest in Heaven sweet man!

Vaya con Dios amigo.  Thanks for your dear friendship.  You were a community police officer before they invented the term.  Pleasure to have worked with Abe.  A respected man and dear friend to everyone he met.  Love and prayers for his family.

You will be dearly missed dad, but we have a lifetime of memories to ease our loss.  Knowing that you are now reunited with mom in Heaven warms our hearts too.   Our thoughts and prayers go out to the rest of our family here and afar.  Know that he lived a full life and didn't meet many people that didn't become his friends.  Rest in Peace dad, we will always hold you and mom both in our hearts and will see you again one day!
