Mr. Schryer is a dear friend who loved the Lord and to tell others about Him. He was a willing servant who volunteered his time to teach young people the truths of God’s Word. He was patient and always gracious with this young youth pastor as the Lord taught me through my many mistakes.

I will never forget his strength and perspective upon our first viewing of James following his drowning. I do not know if Job himself could have displayed more faith in the eye of such a storm. Mr. Schryer was a man of faith who did his best to live what he believed.

That is not to say that he was perfect, for none of us ever comes close to such lofty standards. He battled his flesh and, like Paul of the Bible, found frustration in his tendency to succumb to these areas of weakness. Yet, Mr. Schryer knew that the victory in the end is found in Jesus.

Today, Alan and James stand together in Heaven serving their Savior. What a sweet reunion there has been. No more battles with sin. No more sickness or falling. I like to think that they are skating together once again, father and son, on ice that can never melt talking about the great times they shared together and the incredible future they can anticipate as heirs together of God’s heavenly kingdom.

Rest assured that there is a great reunion coming for the Schryer family. There is no greater hope than the one this family has found in Jesus Christ. Ask one of them today. I am sure they will find great joy in sharing Alan’s eternal legacy with you today.

Dear Schryer family,

I am sorry to hear of your loss. As a former student at Calvary Baptist School, I sat under Mr. Schryer for several different classes over the years he taught there. Though it admittedly took me some time, I came to admire him for the godly man he was. Mr. Schryer became one of my first role models, connecting his faith in Christ to real life in ways I had yet to learn. I am forever grateful for his example. May the Lord wrap you all in His loving arms during these difficult moments, especially reminding you this separation is certainly not the end. Mr. Schryer is in heaven, and I look forward to shaking his hand someday and thanking him personally.
