Amy Marie Balza Szilagyi 48, of Holland, Michigan passed away after a courageous battle with melanoma Thursday July 11th at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She was born April 9, 1971 in Indianapolis, Indiana to parents JoAnn & LeRoy Balza.
Amy was married to Bob and the proud mother of Tate (17) and Eden (15). Amy also loved her fur babies, Simon, Jasper, and Mabel.
Amy was a 1989 graduate of Roncalli High School where she participated in volleyball and softball. She later graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Dayton earning degrees in Accounting and Economics. Upon achieving her CPA, Amy worked in the financial business for several years in Indianapolis before returning to the University of Michigan Law School where she earned her Juris Doctorate with Honors in 1999.
After passing the Michigan Bar Exam, Amy accepted an associate position with a law firm in Holland, Michigan. In 2010 Amy started her own law practice in order to spend more time with her family.
Amy enjoyed traveling. Some of her favorite adventures included honeymooning in Egypt, visiting England with her sister Angie, going to Paris with friends, and a trip to Hungary with her husband and children. In addition, Amy had a great love for nature and outdoor activities. She also loved attending her children’s music concerts and was an avid sports fan rooting for the Green Bay Packers and U of M Wolverines all of her life. Go Pack Go! Go Blue!
Amy is survived by her husband, Bob; children Tate and Eden; parents, JoAnn & LeRoy Balza; sisters, Cindy (Kyle) Crawford, Angela (David) Torok, Barbara (Bill) Berkholz; Karen (Jack) Wildenburg ; brothers, Steven (Dawn) Surber; and Mark (Anna Wells) Surber.
Amy had a beautiful and contagious smile. She was the most caring and giving soul who will be forever loved and greatly missed.
