Arloa "Joy" Sprik

Arloa JOY (Maatman) Sprik, Mar. 12, 1932 – July 21, 2023 ascended to be with her Lord peacefully at Appledorn Living Center; she was 91 years young. Joy was a wonderful woman, mother, aunt, wife, and friend who lived by her name making those around her always feel welcome and loved.

She is survived by her sons Gary (Linda), Marc (Chris), and Doug (Amy) Sprik. She is also survived by her grandchildren & great grandchildren: Troy Sprik and son Ty Helmholdt, Ryan Sprik and daughter, Marlowe; Breanna & Bevan Powell and son, Rowan Gene; Jonathan & Nicole Sprik, Megan & Dustin Nienhuis and children, Lyncoln, Kinsley, and Gracelyn; and Kasey Sprik; as well as several nieces, nephews and friends.

She is preceded in death by husband, Eugene Ivan Sprik; sisters Jane (Dan) Fitzpatrick; Anna Mae (Ed) Adler; Carma (Neil) Exo; and Virginia Witteveen.

Through the years, Joy worked at Swifts Ice Cream, Yff’s Grocery, and retired from Haworth Inc. After retirement she and Gene enjoyed traveling the country in their motorhome, eventually settling in Apache Junction, Ariz. for several winters. The Hope College basketball teams were a favorite past time to the point that during her 90th birthday party she was caught in another room catching up on the score. Joy was a member of Calvary Reformed Church for many years, loved her church family, and often volunteered for the church food bank helping out those in need.

Visitation and a memorial service will be held on Tues., Aug. 22, 2023, at Calvary Reformed Church, 995 E. 8th St., Holland, Mi.; visitation is 1:00 – 3:00 with the memorial service to follow.
