Daniel was an experienced carpenter and woodworking craftsman, having owned his own construction business as well as working for several contractors in the Phoenix area. His great love of horses and the outdoors took him to a position at Hidden Meadow Guest Ranch in Greer Arizona, where he was involved with maintenance and construction management for large log cabin projects, as well as hosting guests on horseback and snowmobile tours—and other ranch duties. Dan was also an avid duck hunter, and loved ducks as much as horses. The White Mountains of Arizona were his favorite place, where he served as a posse member for the Navajo County Search and Rescue team.
Dan was a man of great faith, and his helping spirit was an inspiration to everyone he met.
Dan is survived by parents, Dave and Helen VanKampen, Brother Doug (Lisa) VanKampen of Holland, and sister Nancy (Brian) Pruitt of Kentwood. Nieces and nephews include: Brandon, Brinslea, Collin, Bria, Aliya, Logan VanKampen, and Marisa Helsten.
A private burial service will be held by the family. A memorial service for Daniel will be held on Sunday, October 2, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. at the Central Wesleyan Church Chapel (use entrance ‘D’); everyone welcome. Memorial donations may be made to the horse ministry at Cran Hill Ranch, 14444 17 Mile Road, Rodney Michigan 49342.
