The majority of Don’s career was as a corporate pilot for the Amoco Corporation. In his retirement he volunteered with the Young Eagles program where he introduced youth to the world of aviation and was a mentor to many young pilots. Recently, he received the Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award. This prestigious award recognizes individuals who have exhibited professionalism, skill, and aviation expertise for at least 50 years.
Don was preceded by his parents Donald and Tena Dykstra and brothers, Tunis and Richard Dykstra. Don will be greatly missed by his brothers Albert Dykstra, Arnold (Donna) Dykstra, sister-in-laws Rosalie and Faye Dykstra, several nephews and nieces, and a family of friends.
A memorial service will be held August 9 at 3:00 p.m. at Harderwyk Ministries, 1627 West Lakewood Blvd, Holland, MI 49424. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Per Don’s wishes, a private family burial was held on July 29. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to 70x7 Life Recovery in Holland and the Holland Mission.
