July 10, 1931 -- July 6, 2019
With joyful hearts the family of Dorothy Bol announces that she returned to her heavenly home to be with Jesus, the love of her life, on July 6, 2019 while in the care of Glen Arbor Hospice House in Battle Creek, Michigan.
Dorothy was born July 10, 1931 to the late Peter and Florence (Branderhorst) Kaashoek. After graduating from Holland Christian High School, she pursued advanced degrees from Mercy Central School of Nursing and Texas Woman's University as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. She was the second nurse in Texas to obtain this degree. While she loved nursing, serving others was truly her lifelong passion.
She married Roger De Haan on February 10, 1954 and was blessed with two sons. After Roger passed away in 1960, Dorothy largely raised her boys alone while working in the medical field. After the boys were grown, she remarried and spent 40 happy years with her second husband, Henry Bol.
Her work took her to Holland Hospital (Dr. Bonzelaar), Cragmor Christian Reformed Church in Colorado Springs, National Black Evangelical Association and Huntington Hospital in Pasadena California, Rehoboth Mission Hospital and Cebola Medical in Rehoboth New Mexico, Allegan County Health Department, Migrant Healthcare Clinic (Intercare) where she retired in 1996. In her retirement she worked for 12 years at DeZoete Haan Fudge shop.
Dorothy was preceded in death by Roger De Haan, and Henry Bol.
Dorothy is survived by her two sons David De Haan (Connie) and Daniel De Haan (Kimberly). Dorothy has three siblings, Ruth Rus of San Francisco, CA, Robert Kaashoek (Carlene) of Holland and Rose Mary Reynolds of Port Orchard, WA as well as many nieces and nephews. She was blessed with three grandchildren, Jeremiah David De Haan (Shelby Nakkula), Chelsea Renee Quigg (Jason), Daniel Henry De Haan (Arturo Espinoza Jr), and two great grandchildren, Ryan Daniel and Connor Alexander.
