

Helen Irene Nephew, born on January 22, 1934, in Grandville, Michigan, passed away on February 3, 2026, at the age of 92. A resident of Zeeland, Michigan, Helen was a beloved mother and grandmother, known for her unconditional love and infectious laughter that could brighten any room.
Helen dedicated 35 years to teaching, earning the admiration and affection of all who knew her. She held a master's degree in education, reflecting her commitment to learning and sharing knowledge. Her passion for education was matched by her love for puzzles, as she was an avid crossword and sudoku puzzler. In her leisure time, she enjoyed bird watching and was a fan of reality TV shows and soap operas.
A gardener and hobby farmer, Helen found joy in tending to her goats and chickens. Her love for the Detroit Tigers and her enthusiasm for golfing in her younger years were well known among her friends and family. Helen's sweet tooth was a charming aspect of her personality, and her capacity to love everyone unconditionally was truly remarkable.
Helen married Harry Dale Nephew on January 29, 1954, beginning a journey filled with love and shared experiences. Her life was a testament to the joy of living fully and loving deeply. Her memory will be cherished by the countless family members and friends who were fortunate to know her.
Helen is survived by: her children, Mike (Adele) Nephew, Mark (Kristi) Nephew, and Joel (Corina) Nephew; siblings, Alice Geurink, Bob Hamstra, Ed Hamstra, Jim Hamstra, and Don Hamstra; 17 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren.
Helen was preceded in death by: her loving husband of 59 years, Harry Dale Nephew; sisters, Frances Fox and Judith Hamstra; and grandson, Zech Nephew.
Visitation for Helen Irene Nephew will be held at the Holland Seventh-day Adventist Church, located at 11279 Ottogan, Holland, MI 49423. The first visitation will take place on February 28, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm. A second visitation is scheduled for March 1, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm.
A memorial service will follow at the same location on March 1, 2026, starting at 2:00 pm.
