Judy was born November 6,1943 in Detroit, MI to the late Walter and Virginia Lindsay. Judy graduated from Utica High School in 1962. She raised her family in west Michigan while earning a BSN from Grand Valley State University and MPA from Western Michigan University. Judy's education allowed her to serve as a health-care provider and champion for the under-appreciated including the smallest and most fragile of lives in the Gerber Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Butterworth Hospital for many years. Working as the Neonatal Intensive Care Outreach Coordinator, she dedicated her energy toward addressing persistent health disparities in infant mortality and morbidity. Judy partnered with colleagues at Michigan State University to develop and implement the MOMS program which has evolved into the federal Healthy Start program called Strong Beginnings.
On Thanksgiving weekend, 1998, she married Kenneth D. Post with a family ceremony in their home. Ken and Judy enjoyed many years of biking, hiking and especially their fishing trips to Colorado. Using their talents as group leaders and mentors, both Judy and Ken spent infinite hours investing in the lives of others. A faithful follower of Jesus, she shared God's love through her infectiously warm and giving spirit and compassionate heart. She truly cared about all people, as evidenced by her praying, supporting missionaries, sending cards, baking sweets, gift giving, removing the neighbor’s snow, and interacting with her friends at Frank’s over blueberry pancakes.
Judy was active and loved being outdoors; whether she was tending her garden, walking her loyal Golden Retrievers, collecting rocks, training for a 5K, cross country skiing, or working alongside her children in their business and passions.
Lovingly admired as "Oma" by many grandchildren and friends, Judy will be remembered as attentive, prepared (with popsicles), adventurous, fun, loving and loyal, strong, caring and self-less, warm and friendly, smart and hardworking, giving and generous, and resilient till her last breath.
Judy is survived by her devoted and loving husband Ken, son Todd (Heather) Ferdig, daughter Karry (Greg) Rensberry, sisters Karen (Bob) Brooks and Linda Zook, and grandchildren Brennen (Clara) Ferdig, Aubrie Ferdig, Lindsay Ferdig, Noelle Rensberry and Levi Rensberry. She is preceded in death by her parents Walter and Virginia Lindsay, brother Jack (Connie) Lindsay.
A time to celebrate Judy's life and love is planned for Saturday, August 3, 2024, 10:00 am at Compassionate Heart Ministries, 404 Centerstone Court, Zeeland. Visitation will follow from 11:30 am-1:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hands of Mercy Ministries (homm.org) or Compassionate Heart Ministries (compheart.org).
