Kevin R. Kent, age 59, of Holland, MI passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 17, 2016, with his loving family at his side at the American House in Holland following a long struggle with early onset Alzheimer’s disease.
Kevin was a fraternal twin born on November 1, 1956 in Corvallis, OR. He was the son of the late Ralph Kent and late Joy Miller. He graduated from Fremont High School in 1974, participating in basketball and track. He went on to graduate from Central Michigan University in 1978 with a degree in Business Administration. During his long career in Human Resources he worked in the Holland and Grand Rapids area for Atmosphere Processing, Hart & Cooley, Holland Hitch, Johnson Controls, Davidson Plyforms, and the Harlo Corporation, before creating KRKent HR Consulting, LLC in the Human Resource arena.
Kevin enjoyed playing golf for 47 years with his family and friends, tending to his immaculate lawn, helping those who needed it, but most of all by spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed watching black & white movies, rocking out to Aerosmith, and photography. He was an especially devoted father to his daughter Kathlyn.
He was preceded in death by his father Ralph R. Kent and mother Joy Y. Miller. He is survived by his twin brother Kenneth (Cindy) Kent of Hartford; his sister Karla (Thomas) Lonergan of Naperville; his brother Ty (Tanya) Miller of Fremont; his daughter Kathlyn (Alex) Smith of Holland; and his step-daughters Karli Kaynor of Big Sky, Montana, Kassi (John Carl) Nilsson of Zeeland, and Kristi Kaynor of Zeeland. He is also survived by 11 nieces and nephews, Ryan K., Aly, Ryan L., Casey, Kelly, Kevin, Kenna, Jaxx, Calla, Chaz, and Natya.
Kevin was officially diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s disease in September of 2013, and will be greatly missed as a father, uncle, and a friend to all who met him. Although it has been a long goodbye to the Kevin we all knew and laughed with we will take with us his love of family and friends as he left a profound impact on everyone who crossed his path. He was loved, cherished, appreciated, and respected by all that were blessed to meet and know him.
Memorial services will be held in his honor at Lakeshore Memorial Services at 11939 James St., Holland, MI 49424 on Sunday, 5/22/2016 at 6:00pm. In lieu of flowers the family requests that friends may consider the Alzheimer’s Association for contributions in memory of Kevin.
