Born to Ernest and Marjorie Hansen on November 28, 1947, in Muskegon, Michigan, Larry was a lifelong resident of West Michigan. He graduated from Mona Shores High School and volunteered for the United States Air Force shortly before marrying his wife of fifty-five years, Glenyce (Dewey) Hansen, in Muskegon on June 7, 1969. Larry completed his basic training in Texas, then transferred to South Carolina for a year before being assigned to Hickam Air Force base in Hawaii during the Vietnam War, where he worked in administration. It was during this time that he and Glenyce lived as newlyweds while he was in service. His official military file from this time testifies to his impeccable, critical, and humble service, which affected thousands of lives.
Larry was honorably discharged from the Air Force and began working with the Shaw-Walker Furniture Company of Muskegon, which later became part of the Knoll Group and then a subsidiary of Westinghouse Corporation. He completed his thirty-four-year tenure in 2006. Throughout his life, Larry was a member of Olivet Evangelical Free Church, Lakeshore Baptist Church, and Spring Lake Wesleyan Church, where he often served as an usher.
Those most important in his life and whom he was faithful in prayer for were his wife and three daughters, Kimberly, Angela, and Elisabeth, as well as his eight grandchildren. Larry was a proud and supportive father and grandfather, taking pleasure in baseball, aviation, dogs, cars, and radio, with a special love for Moody Bible Institute Radio Ministries. His quiet, merciful, unpretentious, faithful, and generous ways will be missed, as well as his dry sense of humor and enjoyment of the simple pleasures in life, such as eating a corn dog and drinking a strawberry milkshake, detailing and driving his car, shooting hoops, and mowing the lawn.
For those wishing to make a memorial gift that will be used to honor Glenyce's legacy of faith and prayer in the lives of her grandchildren who are training for ministry, please contact us at [email protected] for donation payment options.
