

LaVerne was born to Samuel and Stella (Young) Henry in 1918. He retired from Mead Johnson in 1974 to serve with his wife Evelyn as missionaries in South Africa for many years. While there they preached the gospel in the villages, built many churches from the ground up, taught Sunday school, worked on vehicles and did whatever he could do to help anyone. He was a member of Faith Christian Center and served in the army in WWII. He loved wood working and was a “jack of all trades”. LaVerne loved to watch westerns especially Marshall Matt Dillon.
He was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn, his son Stanley, and siblings Stewart Henry, Wayne Henry, Janette VanDine, Dorothy Doxey, Maxine Arehart and Hollis Henry and one granddaughter and two great-grandsons.
He is survived by his children Sandra Brown of Holland, Bonnie Nix of Alabama, and LaVerne (Ben) Henry Jr. of Hopkins; by 10 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 19 great-great-grandchildren, and by many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be Thursday, April 14, at 11 a.m. at Shekinah Revival Ministries, 1941 Washington Avenue in Holland. Burial will be Maplewood Cemetery.
Visitation will be at 10 a.m., one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be given to Faith Temple International c/o Shekinah Revival Ministries.
