Leon David Conklin

Leon was born on Feb. 2, 1924 in Fremont, MI to Leon and Dorothy Conklin. He graduated from Fremont High School in 1942. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1942 and received Naval Aviator Training. He received his wings in 1943 and served in the Pacific Theatre aboard the USS Bunker Hill and USS Bennington. He was discharged in 1945. Leon graduated from MSU and operated Municipal Foresters in the Holland area until he retired in 1987.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years Annabel in February, and brother Paul Conklin in July.

He is survived by his children:

Susan Conklin and fiancé Stephen Ciccone of Zeeland

Funeral services will be Saturday, August 23, 2014 at 11:00am at Lakeshore Memorial Services 11939 James Street, in Holland. Pastor Lynn Pier-Fitzgerald will officiate. Inurnment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be one hour before the funeral service at Lakeshore Memorial Services.

Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church in Holland or Meals on Wheels.
