Luanne Renee (Bushen) Binnendyk was lovingly embraced into the arms of her beautiful Savior Jesus Christ, her sweet angel baby and her beloved son Ross on December 18, 2020, following exactly a 7 year battle with cancer.
Luanne was born on June 11, 1961, and was enthusiastically received into her family as the beloved baby sister. She cherished her carefree days growing up in Reeman, MI, next door to her dear Grandma Deters and alongside many neighborhood friends with whom she shared so many great memories with. Luanne graduated from Fremont High School in 1979, and highlights from these years included her involvement with Reeman CRC’s Young Peoples’ Society, Summer Workshop In Missions, and Young Calvinist Conventions; as well as her participation in the FHS Band and Mat Maids. Luanne went on and attended Ferris State College where she graduated in 1981 with dual-degrees in Social Services and Childcare and Development.
Luanne met the love of her life Marty while he was vacationing with his family on Fremont Lake. They fell in love while sailing on its waters and were married on May 8, 1982. They moved to Holland, where with grateful hearts they welcomed their three children. Luanne and Marty were blessed with 38 wonderful years of marriage. Luanne loved being a mother and was extremely proud of her children.
Luanne loved being involved in the lives of the children she looked after. Luanne was a family home daycare provider for 21 years before accepting a position at Lakeshore Head Start, where she taught in the nursery and preschool. She later took on the role of a Home Visitor, teaching children and families in Ottawa County—her favorite job of all. Luanne also ministered at her church as a Sunday School teacher, a Calvinette leader and a Pioneers leader. The children and families she served throughout her career always held a special place in her heart. She continued to love and care for them long after she stopped working due to cancer in December, 2016.
Luanne's most cherished moments were times spent with her family. Luanne loved many family vacations traveling throughout the country, boating, camping, picnics at the beach and going on long bike rides. She enjoyed crocheting, crafting, as well as baking for others-especially for her son. Luanne performed with the Zeeland Community Band as a clarinet player and she volunteered at Harvest Stand Ministries. Some of Luanne's favorite memories were outings with her sisters and the endless shopping adventures with her daughter and best friend Nancy. Luanne's love language was gift-giving; she was truly a master at selecting thoughtful gifts for every recipient. The biggest joy of Luanne's life was when she became a Grandma to her precious grandson Jack, who brought her great delight. She was so grateful God blessed her with the opportunity to be a part of his life; what a special bond they shared.
Luanne was a fighter; a cancer warrior. Throughout her 7 year cancer journey, she remained positive and never gave up hope. She fought so hard for her family and was incredibly grateful for each day she was given. Luanne’s love for the Lord and trust in His timing for all things were her strong anchor in the hard days, her steadfast joy in the good days, and her blessed assurance for eternity.
Luanne was preceded in death by her son Ross Martin; father and mother Gerald and June Bushen; grandparents Edward and Dora Bushen, Herman and Anna Deters; nephew Matthew Bushen; in-laws Martin and Sandra Binnendyk; sister-in-law Susan Binnendyk; nephew Zachary Helms; niece Alexa Binnendyk; and numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins.
She is survived by her husband Marty Binnendyk, Jr.; son Eric and Kelly Binnendyk (Jack); daughter Sandra Binnendyk; special grand dogs Charlee and Simon. Best friends Nancy Bredeweg and Linda Zoerhof.
A private family service is scheduled at the Reeman Cemetery to celebrate Luanne’s earthly journey and to rejoice in her gift of eternal life in Heaven. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Harvest Stand Ministries, 100 Pine Street Suite 100, Zeeland, MI 49464. Luanne, along with her family, wished to thank God, her doctors, nurses, and her prayer warriors for the extra time they gave her to celebrate the precious joys of everyday life as a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Luanne displayed passion and purpose every day of her life, and she persevered as a battle-scarred soldier and servant to the very end. Well done, faithful one! James 1: 12
