Martha Lucy Pisacreta

February 1, 1926November 3, 2018

Martha “Toots” Pisacreta, age 92 of Eastpointe, Michigan. Toots died November 3, 2018 at Appledorn Assisted Living in Holland, Michigan, where she had been a resident since May 2013. Before that, she made her home in the metro Detroit area. The always lively and outgoing Martha was nicknamed ‘Toots” when she was a little girl and was known as Toots or Tootsie her entire life. She was born February 1, 1926 in Detroit to Jim and Mary Peraino. Toots had a great singing voice and performed on the radio as a child and adolescent. Because she loved to sing and dance, her fondest memories revolve around the Sundays she and her older sister and cousins spent at the Vanity Ballroom in Detroit. It is also where she first danced the jitterbug with her future husband Lary Pisacreta, a dashing naval aviator. Lary and Toots were married on January 7, 1950 in a double ceremony with her sister Mary, aka “Muchie”, and Brooks Hanson. Toots and Lary were married fifty-eight years, making sure to visit Las Vegas on an annual basis. She was a huge Tiger baseball fan and always said if she had been a man, she would have wanted to play professional baseball. Toots never tired of watching old Hollywood movies or listening to Judy Garland sing. Survived by her daughters and granddaughters, Toots was a fiercely protective and doting mother to Sharon Schoenfelner and Susan Sarpa, and a proud, loving grandmother to Alison, Emma, and Emily. She was especially pleased that her daughters married such wonderful men, Barry Schoenfelner and Michael Sarpa. Toots always proclaimed her gratitude at having been born to a close and devoted family, which included siblings Mary Hanson, Frank Peraino, and Laurie Kazyak. She is now reunited with her husband, siblings, and parents and will forever be remembered as the vivacious, outspoken, and affectionate Toots. A memorial service will be held along the lakeshore next spring since Toots always preferred the warmer months. Please visit to leave a message or memory for the family.

  • A Memorial service to honor her life will be held next spring.

To the family of "Toots" Pisacreta,

For the past year I've had the graced privilege of making visitations to Toots as part of the local catholic visitation ministry. Toots had an affection for chocolates and loved to talk about her dad's ownership of a drugstore during her childhood. She was a joy to be around and always participated in Catholic communion services and prayer. The richness of her upbringing, marriage and family life are a testament to her spirit and goodness. She will be dearly missed but often remembered.

Please accept heartfelt condolences and prayerful wishes for your extended families as you grieve this loss.

Dear Susin, Sharan and extended family,

This message is from Billy Peraino's oldest son Micheal (Mikey to the Whebys) Your Mom was as you know a classic and loved by anyone who had the good luck to know her. Your Dad was a hero of mine and I always enjoyed our chats when I was lucky enough to get his attention, which was often at large family gatherings. Whenever my parents went to my Aunt Mickey's house, we always stopped by to visit your parents, and often your Aunt Lorie & Art, also classics.

My father passed away about six months ago, so your Mom and Dad should have lots of family and cousins around them with so many that have joined them. What a pleasure it is to have come from such a large extended family with so many original and loving people.

God Bless you and your families
Michael & Karen Peraino

I had the honor of knowing Toots since 2014 and enjoyed playing pool with her and singing old songs together and laughing together . She always used to get a twinkle in her eyes and tell me she wanted to " get in the deep end of the spa tub " Really going to miss her !
