Norman “Duke” Wiersema, 84, passed away after a long illness at Spectrum Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on Saturday, August 1, 2020. Duke was born in January of 1936, to Stephen and Janet Wiersema in Holland, Michigan. He graduated from Holland High School and went on to serve in the US Army. Duke worked for many years as a machinist for the John Thomas Batts Company in Zeeland. However, the highlight of his life may have taken place on September 22, 1972, when he married the love of his life, Marline Sebasta. They were happily married for 47 years!
Duke was preceded in death by his parents Stephen and Janet Wiersema, his daughter Terry Wiersema, and son-in-law Kim Engwiller.
He is survived by his wife, Marline Wiersema, children Mark and his wife Joanne Wiersema, Elaine Diggs, and Judy Engwiller. He is also survived by his siblings Stevie and Greg Harter, Leona Vereeke, and Ron Wiersema.
