Paul Van Huis

Paul is survived by his brother, Thomas (Frela) Van Huis of Chattanooga, Tennessee, sisters Karen (Wayne) Vandenbrink of Holland, MI and Ruth Holthuis (special friend Bill Sved of Marquette, MI) of Paradise, MI, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Oscar Theodore “Ted” and Adrianna “Ada” (Boeve) Van Huis, and a sister Jean Katherine Van Huis.

Paul was born on May 9, 1944 in Holland, MI. He was a graduate of Holland Christian High School and Reformed Bible Institute of Grand Rapids and attended college in Barrington, Rhode Island. Over the years, he worked as an orderly at Haven Park Nursing Home in Zeeland and Blodgett Memorial Hospital in Grand Rapids. He also worked as a custodian at West Ottawa School Systems.

Paul enjoyed helping his parents with their chickens, strawberries, and blueberries. In later years, Paul used a loom to weave an assortment of rugs. He also cut out and hand sewed materials to make dozens of beautifully crafted quilts. He found great pleasure in giving his quilts to people that were special to him.

Paul was a faithful life-long member of Central Avenue Christian Reformed Church of Holland. His faith was reflected in the caring and kindness that he bestowed on others. His hobbies included reading and organizing his collection of family photos. Paul touched the lives of many people and will be missed by family and friends, especially all the staff and residents of the group home who had become his extended family over the past ten years. Paul had a special bond with his sister Ruth with whom he frequently sought support and advice, shared many feelings, and celebrated many accomplishments.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 26, 2015 at 1:00pm at Lakeshore Memorial Services, 11939 James Street in Holland. Rev. Chad Steenwyk will be officiating. Burial will be in Pilgrim Home Cemetery.

Visiting will be Thursday, February 26, 2015 from 12:00-1:00pm at Lakeshore Memorial Services, one hour prior to services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Central Avenue Christian Reformed Church Memorial Fund, 259 Central Avenue, Holland, MI 49423 on Paul’s behalf.
