Ron was a charter member of Real Life Fellowship Church. He graduated from Davenport University with a degree in accounting. Ron put his degree to use working for Huizenga Redi-Mix and also for Rep. Bill Huizenga. He was a Cadet counselor for many years, and volunteered driving weekly for the City Mission (Even riding along to help other volunteers as recently as last week).
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Ruth VanDerKolk; a grandson Hunter VanDerKolk; and a brother Charles VanDerKolk.
Ron is survived by his wife Jan VanDerKolk; daughter Dawn (Doug) Jenkins, grandsons Conor, Liam, and Ian Jenkins; his son Tim (Billie) VanDerKolk, grandchildren Addyson, Payton, Christian, and Elijah VanDerKolk, and Brycen Berghorst; sisters Bette (Roger) Jansen, Diane (James) Bloem; brothers,Tom (Laura) VanDerKolk, Wayne (Laura) VanDerKolk, Dave (Terry) VanDerKolk, Bruce (Pam) VanDerKolk, and Jon VanDerKolk;sister in-law Kathy VanDerKolk and brother in-law Herm Steringa; several nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
A memorial service to celebrate Ron’s life will be 1:00pm Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at Lakeshore Memorial Services, 11939 James St., Holland. Officiating will be Rev. Jason DeWaard.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 11:00am until the time of the service at the funeral home.
