Sherrill Marie Riemersma

Sherrill was born to Harriet and Gerrit Swart, in Chicago, IL. She grew up in Roseland, IL and moved to Mokena, IL in middle school. After graduating from Joliet High School, she moved to Holland, MI to attend Hope College. While at Hope, she met Nelson Riemersma. She left Hope to work downtown Chicago doing payroll and accounting until they married in 1956. Sherrill then moved to Zeeland, MI where they started their life and family together. In 1968, they started building Dutch Treat Camping opening in 1969. She stayed active and interested in the business until her death. Sherrill enjoyed wintering in Florida, golfing, bowling, and watching the Tigers. Sherrill was married for 64 years until Nelson’s death in 2020.

Sherrill is survived by: her 5 children, Darlene (Tim) Vloedman, Gary Riemersma, Steve (Holly) Riemersma, Ken (Kathy) Riemersma, and Linda (John) Veenema; 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; Steve (Jennifer) Vloedman, Michael (Michael) Fleming, Kayla (Pete) Zessin (Bennett, Brynn, Emmy), Tracy (Jason) Peasley (Aiden, Audra), Marie (Josh) Velthouse (Alderin, Bryce, Lily), Kevin Riemersma, Cody Johnson, Katelyn (Connor) Harrington (Savannah), Daniel (Katelyn) Veenema (Easton, Maverick), Melissa (Sheldon) Walcott (Ellory), Kelsie Veenema and Matt Veenema.

A visitation for Sherrill will be held Tuesday, May 6, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Lakeshore Memorial Services, 11939 James St., Holland, Michigan 49424. A visitation will occur Wednesday, May 7, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM. A funeral service will occur Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at 1:00 PM.

In Lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Oaks of Jamestown or Interim Hospice.
