Verna Ruth DeWeerd

Verna was born in Zeeland April 5, 1942 to Vernon and Helen (Buikema) Volkers. She was a lifelong resident of the area, graduating from Holland Christian High School (class of 1960), worked for Warm Friend Resthaven for many years, and was a member of Niekerk CRC. Verna especially enjoyed spending time with her daughters, grandchildren, and great grandchildren; gardening and fishing; and was always willing to take up adventures with her family. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Verna was preceded in death by her son Keith DeWeerd and significant other Jerry VanOosterhout.

She is survived by her daughters Kris and Paul Bulthuis, Pam and Scott Devereaux; grandchildren April and Jeff Dickey (Hayley, Hudson and Kinley), Travis and Sarah Bulthuis, James Devereaux, Jessica and Josh Cassiday (Mason, Cooper and Harper) Jackie and Tyler Taratuta (Gunner, Huntleigh and River).

Brothers Rick and Sue Volkers (The Villages, FL), Fred and Judy Volkers (Seattle, WA), Bart Volkers (Otsego, MI), Mark and Pam Volkers (Holland); Many extended family and friends.

Funeral services to celebrate Verna’s life will be 1:00pm Monday, February 17, 2025 at Lakeshore Memorial Services, 11939 James St., Holland.

Visitation will be Sunday, from 2-4:00pm and Monday from 12noon until the time of the service at the funeral home.
