He attended Holland High School, and as soon as he could, joined the Army Air Corps. He served in the Aleutian Islands.
Upon his return home, he met and married Audrey DeVries. They enjoyed 66 years of marriage until her death in October 2014. He worked at many businesses in the greater Holland area including Chriscraft, Pinkerton Guards, Baker Furniture, 7Up, Beechnut Lifesavers and more. He and Audrey finished their working careers at Herman Miller.
After retirement, Wayne and Audrey volunteered for Meals on Wheels and made thousands of batches of cookies for the Stroke Survivors, Veterans, and other groups. They also started the annual ice cream social in their condominium development.
Wayne was predeceased by his wife and parents as well as older brother, Robert, and sisters, Karen and Carol.
He is survived by daughters, Lynne (Bill) Uildriks and Kris (Erik) Lindquist. He has four grandchildren; Amy Uildriks, Kim (Jerrica) Kallio, Josh (Monika Haggerty) Uildriks, and Jon Uildriks. He has 2 great grandchildren, Jade and Nathaniel Uildriks. His brother Paul (Joyce) Jacobusse also survives him.
He was kind, always interested in others, honest, generous and fair. He could make and fix almost anything and never met anyone he couldn’t engage in conversation. He will be sorely missed but we’re happy he’s back together with Audrey.
Visitation with the family will be at Lakeshore Memorial Services at 11939 James St, Holland, MI 49424, on Thursday, December 29, 2016 from 5 to 7 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to The Salvation Army.
