Losing Adele at 97 feels impossible to put into words, even though I know how full and good her long life was. She and I were raised together, and being only five years apart, our memories of family were nearly the same — the same faces, the same stories, the same people we loved and later missed together. Few people in my life shared that with me, and now that she's gone, I feel the weight of that in a way I didn't expect.

I will miss her cheerful notes more than I can say — the ones that showed up just because, always warm, always her. I will miss our weekly calls, the way we'd talk and inevitably end up laughing about some memory of family, remembering the ones we'd both lost along the way. Those calls were a steady thread through so many years of my life, and I don't know yet what it will feel like without them.

She leaves behind so much love — her granddaughters, her grandsons, and her great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored so openly. That love was who she was, right to the end. I will carry her, and our shared memories, with me for the rest of my life.
