

Allen Norman Gayler passed away at the age of 89. He was born in Indiana to Leland and Martha Gayler. He had three siblings and was active in Attica High School athletics including basketball and cross country. Allen graduated from the Indiana State Teacher College in 1958 and entered the US Navy. He earned “Wings of Gold” as a naval aviator in 1960. After eight years flying in the Navy, he joined Eastern Airlines where he flew as a flight Engineer, First Officer, and Captain until 1989. He married Margaret (Peggy) Theresa Evans in 1960 and became the father of two boys and two girls. He was a voracious reader and enjoyed billiards and poker. He was a dedicated patron of the local community libraries. In his later years, Allen became an active member of Jim Ward Community Center, often attending three classes a week and playing in the weekly bingo games. He is survived by his children, Gary Gayler, Sandra Gayler, Julie Callan (Dan), and John Gayler (Jennifer), his sister Linda Lewton, sister-in-law Mary Lou Evans, brother-in-law Robert Bibb and his grandchildren David Gayler, Delaney Callan, and Cole Gayler. He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret (Peggy) Gayler, his parents, Leland and Martha Gayler, a brother, Dale Gayler and sister Carolyn West. There will be a celebration of life at the Jim Ward Community Center on Wednesday, Nov 6, 2024from 12:00 to 2:00.
